Obituary

Alvin Monroe Hess (Shorty) passed away peacefully in Red Bluff at St. Elizabeth Hospital on March 3, 2023 under the incredible care of the entire staff at St. E's, he was 85 years old. Shorty was born to Tillman and Erma Hess on April 19, 1937 in Alturas, Ca; he was the youngest of 5 children. The family moved to Anderson Ca. around his 10th birthday. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1954 after excelling in Football, Boxing and Baseball.  Shortly after graduating, he joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed primarily in Panama during his duration of service where they won The Armed Forces Softball Championship in 1958.

After his return home, he met and Married Marba Jean Mullin in June of 1959. In 1960, they welcomed their first son Eric. Shorty worked several local jobs before moving his family to Arcata Ca. in early 1963. Their 2nd son Kenny was born soon after. Shorty worked in the local saw mills for the next 8 years before returning to Redding Ca. in early 1971. After working several different jobs, he was hired at Foothill Distributing Company. There he would become the Special Events Manager until his retirement at age 75 in 2013.  Shorty would become forever known as "Shorty the Budweiser Man"!  He would travel to several different counties to everything from Fairs, Rodeos to Weddings throughout our local area driving his little wagon known as the "Shorty Mobile"!

Shorty loved fishing, golf and traveled to many different places to enjoy that with all of his family and very many friends. Shorty will always be happily remembered for his big smile, quick wit and sense of humor. He will be happily remembered by a countless number of people throughout the North State.

He was predeceased by his parents, his 4 siblings Vada, Tillman, Virginia, Lela and his first son Eric. He is survived by his youngest son Kenny, Favorite Daughter in Law Debbie and grandchildren Kaylee Hess Foret, Husband Adam Foret, Marshall Hess, Randy Hess as well as Great Grandchildren Paisley Hess, Recker Hess, Emersyn Foret and Vivian Hess. Arrangements are held under the direction of Sweet-Olsen Family Simple Cremations and Burial Service, a celebration of life will be held on April 13 at the Red Bluff Elk's Lodge BPOE #1250 on Gilmore rd at 11am with a lunch and no host bar following the service
