DANIEL G. VELA February 15, 1940 ~ July 13, 2018 Daniel G. Vela of Red Bluff passed away July 13, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center, Redding, CA. He was 78 years young. Danny was born February 15, 1940 in Monterrey, Mexico to Felix and Esperanza Vela. The family moved to San Antonio, TX where Danny and his mother became citizens. Danny's father was born in Texas so was already a US citizen. Next the family moved to Chicago where Danny graduated high school. He then enlisted in the Army where he served two years eighteen days in Germany being honorably discharged in 1962. After discharge, Danny returned to Chicago, married a childhood friend, and moved to Los Angeles to start a family. Danny completed refrigeration and appliance repair school to work for Montgomery Ward for thirty-eight years. After retiring, Danny drove Tehama County school buses and TRAX public transportation in Red Bluff. He also served as a Spanish translator for Social Services. Danny was a Mason his entire adult life earning their highest degrees. He was a Shriner, and a member of the Elks, Moose, VFW, Westside Grange. Danny is survived by his wife, Jeri Vela and his three children; Christine Holliday (son-in-law, Kenneth Holliday), Laura Flores and Philip Vela, and one granddaughter, Janelle Ezell. A military service is planned for July 30, 2018 at 12:30pm at the Veteran's Cemetery at Igo, CA.
