Emil Rudolf Slionys, of Red Bluff, CA, passed away on November 23, 2022 at 11:21 PM, at his home in Red Bluff. He was 79.
Born November 25, 1942, in Neustadt, Germany, Emil emigrated with his family to the United States in 1950 and settled in the El Camino district, south of Red Bluff. He became a naturalized citizen in 1952.
Emil attended Red Bluff High School where he excelled in football, earning the school several regional and state-wide championships. After graduation, he attended Utah State, Logan, on a scholarship and then returned to Red Bluff, CA, to marry his High School sweetheart, Maudean VerValen, of Corning, CA, in 1962.
In 1965 Emil was hired by the Red Bluff Police Department as patrolman and in 1992 he was selected as Chief of Police of the Red Bluff Police Department. He retired in 1997. Emil was a passionate outdoorsman, from elk hunting, surf fishing, to camping, and loved to share this passion with his family and friends. Most of all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Emil is survived by his wife Maudean Slionys of Red Bluff, CA, and two sons, Matthew Slionys of Phoenix, AZ, and Robert Slionys, of Eureka, CA; one grandson, Adam Slionys, his sisters, Lilija Wimer of Klamath Falls, OR, Harta Austin of Titon, WA, Marta White of TX, Emma Janc and Ruth Shamlbin of Red Bluff, CA, and many nieces and nephews.
Emil was preceded in death by his parents Johan and Mary Slionys, his brother, Oscar Slionys and sister Zelma Overman.
Memorial services will be held at the Red Bluff Elks Lodge on Thursday, February 9, 2023 at 11 AM.
