Jolene Zeeveld Kemen of Red Bluff, 66, passed away with her family by her side Monday, January 7, 2019, at Mercy Medical Center in Redding. She was born July 14, 1952 to the late Arlene "Joy" (Andrews) and George "Dean" Zeeveld. She grew up a "Daddy's Girl", accompanying Dean on hunting trips and spending time at the Elks Lodge but she could also be found attending Rainbow Events with her mother and sister, Nanell. Jolene graduated from Red Bluff High School (1970) and Shasta College (1972).
It was at Shasta College Jolene met her husband Clifford, and they married August 12, 1972. Jolene worked at Red Bluff Auto Electric a business her parents started in 1952 that she and Cliff later bought and continued running. She was the "brains" behind the business and did all the accounting as well as managing the office. In later years she also took on a few part-time book keeping jobs to continue growing her professional talents. She was also a homemaker and always found a way to be there for her "main job" of raising her children, she could always be found carting them to their countless events and cheering them on in the stands.
As a third generation Tehaman, Jolene was very involved in the community. She always prioritized giving back and she spent endless hours raising funds for St. Elizabeth Community Hospital through Tough Enough to Wear Pink and was a member of the St. Elizabeth Community Hospital Advisory Board. She was a director since 1996 for the Red Bluff Round Up and was also one of the largest stock holders within the Round Up. She felt passionate about keeping the sport of rodeo alive in young cowgirls and cowboys and was a pioneer in bringing the PRCA Camp for Youth to Red Bluff. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Emblem Club, among other things.
Though she had many accomplishments related to work and her philanthropy, it was her family that she loved the most. If you had the opportunity to ask Jolene what her greatest achievement in life was, she would tell you her children. And she was the proudest of her grandchildren. She was the definition of what a mother and grandmother should be. She loved her fur children almost as much as her human kids, she was known for always having her dogs with her including taking them with her for her daily trip to Starbucks for an iced tea and then into work at the parts store. As well as being one heck of a mother and grandmother she was a loyal friend, an excellent cook, thoughtful gift giver and a talented gardener. On most nice days you could find her with her gardening tools putting in a new plant or patiently pruning them. In true fashion of who she was, Jolene thought of others even at the time of her passing, she was an organ donor. She forever changed the lives of three people with her gift.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Clifford, and two children Todd (Stefanie) of Sacramento and Lynn (Logan Keller) of Vale, Oregon, and four grandchildren, Clive (7), Wade (6), Laynee (2) and Laramie (6 months) as well as her sisters Nanell (Mawbey) and Penny (Costa). She was, without a doubt, the best mother and grammy.
A Celebration of Life is planned in her honor on March 2nd at the Red Bluff Elks Lodge at 3 pm.
