Mark Leslie
Scott
May 26, 1955 — Oct 11, 2021
Mark passed away at home after his second battle with cancer. He was born in Red Bluff and grew up in Dairyville where he attended Lassen View Elementary School and later Red Bluff High School, graduating in 1973. With an interest in plants and a life-long love of gardening, Mark pursued classes in the field of horticulture while living in the farm dorm and attending Shasta College.
In the summer of 1975, at the Tehama County Fair, Mark met his bride Georgia. They married the following summer in July and proceeded to start a family and build a life together which would continue for the next forty-five years.
Mark was employed at the Diamond National lumber mill and worked in a variety of positions from brakeman on the switch engine to lumber tally-man and others up until the mill's closure in 1989. Just before the birth of their child he started a job at Bell Carter Olives in Corning and stayed with that company until 2013.
Spurred by his interest in wester history, Mark joined and became active in the local black powder club, the Yolla Bolly Frontiersmen. Garbed i leathers, coonskin cap and capote, he and Georgia traveled to various rendezvous throughout northern California and southern Oregon where he participated in muzzle loading competitions. Later his interest in European history drew Mark to participate in local Renaissance Fairs with a long sword upon his back and a flask of mead in hand. Mark's avid interest in California history led him to join the honorable order of E Campus Vitus (the Clampers) of which "Flounder" was an initiated member of three different chapters: His local chapter Lassen Loomis 1914-XGNH, Chapter 62 Trinitarianus and Chapter 7-11. As Grand Noble Humbug in 2008 he arranged the dedication and placement of the historical plaque on the Hotel Maywood in Corning.
Mark is survived by his wife Georgia of 45 years; his children Derek Scott, Jasper (Ashley) Scott and Lauren (Arlen) Swanson; and his grandson Oliver Swanson; his brothers John Scott and Michael Scott; his mother JoAnn Scott; one niece, three nephews, and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father Lester "Scotty" Scott.
