Melvin C. McNeill
10 14 1933-09 05 2026
Corning, Ca
While both born and passing in California, Melvin would declare Hood River, Oregon "home', and was dedicated to the beautiful area of Mt. Hood and Lost Lake. He, along with his first wife. Grace, raised their children, Melinda, Mathew, and Shawn, in the south bay area. When Grace passed in 2005, he sold their home and he moved to Rancho Tehama and spent his retirement years landscaping and improving the property there. For 5 years he was happily married to Mary, his second wife and lovely partner.
Mel was a master auto and bus mechanie working for himself, auto dealerships, and retiring from the Cupertino, CA school district. He maintained everyone's vehicles as a side hustle, often charging 'a good steak dinner' in payment. For many years he was a member of the local Antique Automotive Club of America, primarily involved in the Valle Del Sur chapter in Morgan Hill. He built a 1922 Ford Speedster and he and Grace were active members competing in 'endurance runs" each year. He restored many other antique automobiles and enjoyed visiting the swap-meets looking for just the right parts for his current project.
Melvin is survived by his daughter, Melinda MeNeill-Glen of Corning, Matthew McNeill of Paradise, and Shawn Jones MeNeill of Missouri. He has 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren through birth, adoption and marriage who are spread all over the country. His one remaining sister of 8 siblings, Cleta MeNeill remains in Hood River, Oregon. Numerous nieces and nephews survive him as well.
There will be a family and friends gathering at his home on Sunday, October 11 from 1-4. All are invited to come and share memories together. Lunch will be served There will be a second gathering for our Bay Area family and friends on November 15 from 12-4 in Morgan Hill. For either address, please call or text Melinda 717-574-8736
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to Child Evangelism Fellowship. NorCal, Northern Counties. Mel always supported what his children were involved in and passionate about, and in these last years that Melinda cared for her father, he often purchased what she desired for local Good News Clubs, sometimes with his signature grouchy, "sure - as long as its for the children. Melvin Clinton McNeill was born October 14,1933 to James and Jessie McNeill and passed away September 5,2026 at his home in Corning. The QR code is here for your consideration.
