Stanley Norman
Weigand
May 6, 1933 — Aug 2, 2024
Stan Weigand, a Cowboy Like No Other.
Stanley Norman Weigand, known to all as Stan, was born May 6, 1933 at his parents' home ranch near Adin, Ca. His parents, Lawrence and Norma Weigand, welcomed their new son and his sisters, Avis and Cleo, were happy to have a brother. Six years later a brother Dale joined the family. Stan grew up on the Weigand Ranch his whole life, he only moved across the road to his own ranch in 1962.
When Stan was six years old, he survived being kicked in the head by a horse and was unconscious for a week. This slowed him down a bit as he had to learn to walk and talk all over again. He went to the one room Center School house all through grade school. He and his sisters rode their bikes two miles down the road to school with one teacher and all eight grades. Stan was the only one in his class. By high school time he went to Adin to high school where his favorite subject was basketball.
All Stan ever wanted to do was be a rancher and cowboy so when he graduated from high school in 1952, he bought his own herd of cows and working on his father's ranch he kept his cows and lived the cowboy life he loved.
In 1954 he started dating Glorianne Roufs from Bieber and June 1956 they were married in the little White Church in Bieber that was built by his Grandfather Studley. They moved into the old Johnson House that Stan's folks owned. Their first son Doug was born in June of 1958 and their second son Scott was born in March of 1960.
Stan worked for his Dad for seven years and in 1963 Stan and Glorianne got the chance to buy the 101 Ranch from his Aunt and Mother. The 101 Ranch had been homesteaded by Stan's Great Grandfather Benjamen Studley in 1869. Stan was the fourth generation to own the 101 Ranch.
Stan was a 4-H leader, Forest Service Advisor, Farm Bureau Member, FRBV Cattlemen, and a helper and friend to anyone who needed him. Stan and Glorianne also gave a home to several young boys that needed a family and place to live. Those boys say that Stan saved their lives.
In 2003 after 40 years on the 101 Ranch and on Stan's 70th Birthday he and Glorianne sold the ranch and moved to their retirement home in Pittville. Although retirement was only a word they worked for 15 years with the Fort Crook Museum. They were instrumental in the moving and rebuilding the Round Barn, Moving the Time Keepers Cabin from Pondosa, restoring the Fort Cabin, refurbishing the James Showcase, and buying the Church.
They have enjoyed 5 fantastic Western Livestock tours to Wyoming, Texas, Oklahoma, Montana and Nebraska with 120 of their friends.
Stans parents Lawrence and Norma Weigand, sister Avis and Brother Dale have all gone over the great divide.
Stan was proud of his family. Stan is blessed with a large family:
Glorianne Weigand, Stan's beloved wife of 68 years. They work side by side as a loving and devoted couple.
Stan's son Doug, his wife Jeannette, and step granddaughters Lily and Avery; grandson, Adam Weigand and his sons, Stan's great grandsons, Wade and Roy; granddaughter Shauna and husband Ken Berliner, and great granddaughters Taylor and Charlie.
Stan's Son Scott, granddaughter Tyler and husband Chris Green, and great granddaughters Tatem and Caydence; and granddaughter Blake Weigand and great grandson Wyatt.
Stan has a large extended family of many nieces, nephews, longtime friends, and admirers.
Stan Weigand epitomizes the "Cowboy Way" through honesty, integrity, as a land steward, a herdsman, and a gentleman. Stan lives the life he always wanted, to be a cowboy and a rancher in the community pioneered by his family in Big Valley. Stan is a gentle soul, always willing to help, a leader in the cattle industry, and as a wonderful Father and devoted husband.
